I have regretted when you were our pastor that you and I did not have more theological and philosophical discussions. Having had 16 years of Catholic schooling and a minor in philosophy, thanks to the insistence of the Jesuits, I have always had an profound interest in Catholicism. I find your current missive to be cool breath of fresh air during a time of hotly debated issues concerning the recent past and future of the Church.
I am a firm believer that the past is often repeated. The history of the Church is replete with prior scandals and disreputable popes and priests. Yet she survived and will survive.
